Great little coffee and unique mercantile set up inside ColsonKeane Leather.  They specialize in cold-press coffee to order, but whipped me a nice latte in nothing flat.  Very good.

They opened this week and seem to have most of the kinks worked out.  Looking for something unique that says, "Yepper, that's me," stop in and snoop around.  As an added bonus, you are right in the midst of ColsonKeane Leather shop which crafts distinguished, high quality bags, portfolios, etc. (You know, they're the company that advertises in most in-flight magazines).  The smell alone of brewed beans and tanned leather is intoxicating.  Breath deeply.

So, grab a coffee, buy a new hat, and place your order for a custom portfolio.  How can you go wrong?  I say, "Give this place a whirl."

I waited a few weeks to write my review about this place because I have such mixed feelings about it. First and foremost, Charlotte has plenty of places to get a coffee, but it's the first city of many I have lived that I have never found a coffee shop that I absolutely love and made my "home." Despite the disappointment, I continue to search for one and hope each time a new one opens that this time may just be the one.

Outpost makes a delicious cup of coffee, the service is friendly and fast, and the location in the neighborhood is great. Parking is not an issue. Though the signs along the building say Hawthorne's only, the owner told me they have a good relationship and it's okay to park in those designated spots.

The environment is very cool. The smell of leather and the industrial vibe of the leather store is unique for any coffee shop in town. If you're interested in shopping, it's probably not a on the whim shop given the price points, but the products are nice and seem high quality. Note: The coffee shop shares space with the shop, but they are separate businesses.

The struggle: I just didn't feel comfortable being there. I was the only customer, so it's extremely quiet other than the people working. In some ways, I felt like I was in their work space, even if not in their way. The seating was not comfortable at all. I tried a few different seats and just couldn't find anything that worked for me. A couch, next to chairs, and a coffee table in the middle of this coffee shop would be amazing. Something leather to compliment the shop would be a nice tie in.

If you're looking for a grab and go coffee, this place is perfect. If you're looking for a coffee shop to sit down at, I encourage you to try it and hope that we can get some more foot traffic in there. I also hope that with popularity, modifications can be made to be more comfortable.
